REDUCING STORAGE VOLUME:

BUFFER MANAGEMENT

Challenge

Large quantities of liquid buffers are widely used in most biopharmaceutical processes during the production of medicines. Pre-made buffers arrive in the processing suites and collectively take up substantial and valuable cleanroom space.

Solution

Our innovative answer was to create a Buffer Management System that allows buffers to arrive as concentrates, greatly reducing their volume by x10 or more. Our system then adds Water for Injection (WFI), pumped to the suite from outside the facility. The system dilutes the concentrates to the exact requirements through precision pumping, valves, and inline sensors. This is all controlled through a Human Machine Interface (HMI) linked to automation technology within the main hardware. To ensure quality and sterility in the process, we created this as a single-use system consisting of biocontainers, tubing, and aseptic connectors.
